ABC Central Ohio Members: A little while ago, I brought to your attention a pair of ordinances pending before the Columbus City Council that ABC Central Ohio is tracking. One ordinance would require that the prevailing wage be paid on any private project that receives more than $500,000 of value from the city in support of construction or renovation on that project. A second would require these private entities to also meet with the city’s office of diversity regarding their contracting processes. ABC Central Ohio has sent a letter to Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin opposing these measures on the grounds they will drive up construction costs needlessly, stifle competition and, ultimately, will fail to provide any real benefits to the taxpayers of the City of Columbus. ABC Central Ohio has offered to meet with President Hardin and Council Members at any time to discuss these matters. We will continue to monitor these harmful proposals and keep you informed.
