Associated Builders and Contractors works nationally and locally to advocate for the merit shop industry. ABC Central Ohio supports the “merit shop message” which is a philosophy that encourages open competition and free enterprise in the construction industry. Our chapter is involved locally, at the state level, and nationally, to protect and advance our members’ priorities.

ABC Central Ohio encourages its members to get involved with legislative, political and regulatory proposals that impact the merit shop construction industry. ABC Central Ohio provides resources for members to better understand, support, and voice opinions on legislation.

Federal Government

ABC National is one of the most influential business advocacy groups in Washington DC and its core purpose is to defend free enterprise in the construction industry.

State Government

ABC of Ohio recruits candidates and supports the election of state legislators and statewide officials who champion the merit shop through policies that promote free enterprise. Since 1950, ABC’s political engagement and policy victories have increased the merit shop contractors’ share of commercial construction from 15% of the market to 87% today.

Local Government Affairs

ABC Central Ohio’s local government affairs efforts aim to bring its members into city, county, and local bureaucratic governing processes to make them more effective, more inclusive, more accountable, and ultimately more successful at serving the merit shop construction community.
