Program Overview: Critical Skills® was developed for selected construction team members to support supervisors and leaders by providing top field personnel with pre-leadership training.

Workbooks: Before each module starts, a PDF of the workbook will be sent to download. The workbook is a tool participants can use as part of the program. It includes exercises and activities that can be shared with employers and team members.

Format: The four modules are designed in the same format as the Construction Foreman and Construction Leader online programs. Each of the four 2-hour modules are presented using a fast-paced direct approach. They are jam packed with immediately actionable and relevant content. Critical Skills® generates meaningful discussions between supervisors and their crew members, putting everyone on the same page.

Module 1–Construction Communication Part 1—Mon., Jan. 18, 2021 5:00pm – 7:00pm CST/ 6:00pm – 8:00pm EST What is the Communication Model and what could possibly go wrong? This module focuses on the communication cycle between a sender and receiver. It also covers active listening.

Module 2–Construction Communication Part 2—Wed., Jan. 20, 2021, 5:00pm – 7:00pm CST/6:00pm – 8:00pm EST Communicating ethically and earning respect are at the very core of an effective construction crew. This module outlines the behaviors of a high trust working environment. It also covers how gossip, rumors, and how lies destroy trust.

Module 3–Construction Teamwork—Mon. Jan. 25, 2021, 5:00pm – 7:00pm CST/6:00pm – 8:00 pm EST This module covers the difference between groups and teams. It highlights team member styles and intergenerational/multicultural teams. It also spotlights the importance of onboarding new crew members.

Module 4–Construction Professionalism & Productivity—Wed. Jan. 27, 20, 5:00 pm – 7:00pm CDT/6:00pm – 8:00pm EST No matter the trade, construction is a profession. This module ties the traits of construction professionals in with productivity.
